Camden County law enforcement is conducting an investigation and searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a local woman on a Camden street.
The shooting went down shortly before 9:00 p.m. According to Camden County authorities, two females were walking on South 6th Street in Camden NJ when another person approached them and used a firearm to fire several gunshots.
The Camden County Police Department sent cops to the area after getting a ShotSpotter activation alert about gunshots fired. When Camden police officers arrived at the scene of the shooting, they came across the two victims.
The victim who died as a result of the shooting incident was a 21-year-old Camden resident. Emergency medical responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
The other shooting victim, an 18-year-old woman, survived her gunshot wounds. After being treated at a local hospital, she was listed in stable condition.
The Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting. Investigators have not yet been able to identify the culprit.
If authorities are eventually able to determine the identity of the shooter, that person would probably be subject to criminal charges for murder, attempted murder, and aggravated assault.
This is just the most recent shooting to occur in Camden, NJ. It seems like there is another fatal shooting in the city every week: so far this year, local police have been called to investigate 29 homicides.
