Law enforcement recently apprehended man who allegedly robbed a corner grocery store in Woodlynne, NJ.
The theft incident went down around 9:00 a.m. According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect was brandishing a meat cleaver as he walked into the D&D Market on Woodlynne Avenue
Once he was inside the store, the suspect allegedly held the meat cleaver to the store owner’s neck and took his cell phone. The store owner fought back, prompting the suspect to back away and go toward the cash register.
While the suspect was taking money out of the cash register, the victim locked him inside the grocery store. The victim then asked a passerby to contact local police.
Meanwhile, the suspect attempted to exit the locked store by breaking a window. However, the store owner used a rubber mallet to hit the suspect in the head, knocking him to the ground. When the suspect got up, he fled the scene on foot. The store owner ran after him and later provided police officers with information on his whereabouts.
Woodlynne NJ police officers later found the suspect hiding at a nearby cemetery.
The 22-year-old suspect, who lives in Woodlynne, was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including armed robbery, criminal mischief, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and a certain persons offense for being a felon in possession of a weapon.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was remanded to the Camden County Jail. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of $125,000 bail.
