Police in Gloucester City recently apprehended a man accused of masturbating in a motor vehicle parked at a local parking lot.
The sex crime reportedly occurred at night. The Gloucester City Police Department got a report of a man committing a lewd act while seated in his car. When police officers showed up at the parking lot of a local CVS, they reportedly found the suspect in the process of masturbating. He was allegedly using a handheld device while he committed the sexual offense.
According to authorities, the suspect could be seen by anyone who happened to walk by on the sidewalk.
Police removed the suspect from his car and arrested him.
When police later searched the vehicle, they allegedly came across four shotguns.
The suspect, a 38-year-old male from National Park New Jersey, was charged with multiple criminal offenses, including lewdness and unlawful possession of a weapon.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted of the most serious charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, he would be subject to significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, anyone who illegally possesses a shotgun can be charged with a third degree crime. A conviction on third degree illegal possession of a shotgun charges could lead to a sentence of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Camden County Jail in Camden, New Jersey. He was being held at the jail in lieu of bail.
