Burlington Township police are looking for three men accused of breaking into an apartment violently assaulting a woman.
The attack happened at the Chateau Apartment Complex located on Sunset Road in Burlington Township, NJ.
According to authorities, the three men knocked on the woman’s apartment door sometime in the morning. When the woman opened the door to her apartment, the suspects allegedly rushed inside and held a handgun to her head.
The suspects then allegedly shoved the victim to the floor and pistol-whipped her with the gun.
The woman screamed, prompting the suspects to exit the apartment and flee the area in a black four-door vehicle with Florida license plate tags.
Investigators believe that the suspects were trying to commit a theft and steal the woman’s possessions. The men reportedly left the apartment without taking anything.
After the violent attack, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries. She was later released from the medical facility.
The Burlington Township Police Department is conducting an investigation into the alleged assault. However, since the suspects reportedly masks throughout the incident, police have been unable to identify them.
If police can eventually identify and apprehend the suspects, it is likely that the suspects would face criminal charges for aggravated assault and armed robbery. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b), aggravated assault committed with a deadly weapon can be classified as a third degree crime. A conviction for third degree aggravated assault could result in a sentence of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
